"Angela as a Prophet of Hope"
North American Ursuline Convocation
Angela Merici, alive and well in the twenty-first century, drew 250 women to Pittsburgh for a North American Ursuline Convocation July 16 to 18, 2004. The participants included seven women representing the Company of St. Ursula, from the United States and from Canada.
The Convocation is a triennial opportunity for renewing friendships and meeting kindred spirits.
Diversity enriched the gathering with different ethnic groups and nationalities (from Canada, the United States and Mexico). There was also a diversity of vocations. Besides the consecrated lay women of the Company, there were women religious and lay associates.
"Angela Merici: Prophet of Hope" was the theme addressed by the keynote speaker, Mary McCormick, OSU. She explored Angela Mericis prophetic voice in her day (1500s) as a model for approaching the future with fresh insights:
- Angela was a witness to Gods fidelity.
- Angela was full of hope.
- Angela brought a new reality into being: a company rooted in the love of Christ and shaped by her imagination.
